Labrie, Hélène

Labrie, Hélène

Born in 1956, Hélène Labrie is 22 years old when she discovers sculpture, her father having taken up pottery as a hobby.  Challenged by her university professors to pursue that path and to hone her craft, her first exhibition occurs in 1979 and she hasn’t stopped creating since.  A mother of five, Labrie divides her time between sculpting and her family.

Labrie’s subjects, although they are swathed in humour, remain beautiful and endearing; without fail, they call out to the viewer’s imagination and remind us to look at the world with different eyes.
