Born in Montreal in 1948, Jean-Pierre Lafrance studies sketching and painting at Montreal’s École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal from the age of sixteen. He continues his training at the Salette studio, in Jordi Bonet’s workshop, the at Val David’s Atelier de l’Île, where he learns to master various techniques in silkscreen printing and lithography.
The structures of Lafrance’s pictural language are subjected to thrusts from the real and the unreal, creating a dreamlike universe, the unlimited order of which remains the concrete impulsion.
A multidisciplinary artiste, Lafrance has frequently exhibited in Canada and abroad, particularly in the United States and in France. In addition to his paintings, he creates tri-dimensional works, many of which can be seen in public spaces and commercial buildings.
