Born in 1971 at l’Île-aux-Coudres, Jimmy Perron’s passion goes back as far as he can remember : as a child, he would draw pictures on the bottoms of old cardboard boxes received at his father’s grocery store. Throughout his childhood and youth, he continues to paint his surroundings, the island shores, the fishermen, the old fishing boat dry-docked behind his family’s home.
When Jimmy is only nineteen years old, a collector passing through l’Île-aux-Coudres, impressed by his talent, buys a few paintings from the artist and encourages him to pursue a career in the arts. This was the sign that Perron had been waiting for, and he quits working as a cabinet-maker to paint full-time.
Perron’s paintings, whether landscapes, portraits or still-lives, are as much the expression of moods as they are the depiction of scenes chosen by the artist. His subjects act as supports for tone and movement fluctuations which blend into one another. The resulting works, infused with a rare sensitivity, celebrate life passing at the rhythm of the seasons.
