Born in 1945, self-taught artist Thérèse Joannette, nurtures her creativity by attending numerous seminars and workshops over the years.
Beginning in 1965, she frequents frère Jérôme’s studio, where she learns to let her interior self emerge through free gesture. She later participates, for five years, in the École d’été de Mont-Laurier, along with Dominique Sarrazin, Seymour Segal, Francis-Dubois-Torres, Éric Demers and Françoise Sullivan. In 2000-2001, she takes Françoise Sullivan’s painting classes at Concordia University.
Joannette’s work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, including at Maison Lachaîne in St. Thérèse, at Le nouveau continent of Val-David, at the Sky complex and at Galri in Montreal, as well as at Perspectives gallery in Pont-Aven in Brittany.
The artist’s talent has been acknowledged by various prizes and awards, including jury’s first prize, both at la Semaine des arts visuels de Mont-Tremblant and the Symposium de peinture de Kamouraska.
