Jean Lemieux was born in Quebec City in 1946; at the age of nine, he begins attending the Ateliers du samedi of the Quebec School of Fine Arts.
After obtaining a bachelors’ degree in graphic communication, he teaches illustration at the École des arts visuels de l’Université Laval, and founds a silkscreen printing shop where he will work for fifteen years. Since 1997, the artist has exclusively dedicated himself to watercolour and oil painting, through which he continues to explore and experiment with colour.
An indefectible lover of his hometown and of the outdoors, Lemieu selects fragments of places or characters, then translates them into “snapshots” of daily life, taking on their full meaning with their title, which form an integral part of this artist’s work.
