Born in 1964 in Romania, Teodora Pica is influenced as a child by her father who, like his father, is a renowned muralist and icon painter. Under his guidance, she learns to grind pigments and prepare surfaces to receive colour.
Pica studies art in Romania, and discovers within her a fascination for large, open spaces; that fascination takes her to Canada, more precisely to Toronto, where she obtains a degree in architecture.
Her training as an architect and the murals techniques acquired from her father play complementary parts in Pica’s work : in the her paintings, space is skilfully occupied by textures, colours and subjects which forever fade and merge into one another.
